Pienza is immersed in the Val d'Orcia, it is a splendid village that time has not affected at all. The town is known as the "ideal Renaissance city", due to the fact that Pope Pius II, Enea Silvio Piccolomini, decided to transform it accordingly. When walking through the streets of Pienza you will meet unique landmarks and palaces such as the Cathedral, the Duomo, the Pieve di Corsignano. Pienza is also famous for its pecorino cheese, soft and characterized by a unique taste, and especially because it was the location of one of the most famous scenes of the film The Gladiator. The scene depicting the Elysian fields was in fact shot in the countryside surrounding Pienza.
Montepulciano
